Rodney

Rodney 2 monthsRodney was born in April 2014. He is out of Martin’s intermediate event mare Lexie and by the Jumbo sired TB/ID stallion MedNight Mahout. Lexie’s parents were both advanced event horses, and she has a half brother (same dam) that was 11th at Badminton in 2015. MedNight Mahout himself went intermediate before injury forced retirement and I am sure Jumbo needs no introduction. So it is with some disbelief that you look at the picture on the right and think of the eventing blue-blood scorching through this boy’s veins!! He is best described as a complete dufus…

Given that he is a great big gangly chap we are taking him very slowly. In 2018 he had some initial handling and backing work before leaving Stud UK, then went to Myles West to continue his early education. After that he came home and Martin has been progressing his flatwork, and starting some small jumping including a trip out to pop some logs before a few months off over the winter. He is a real sweetie with such a kind eye but not without his quirks when ridden!

He came back into work February 2019 and is slowly being educated while being given time to grow and develop. He has had his first experiences of SJ and XC schooling and looks to have quite a pop. In 2020 he did his first two BE80s with a 9th place at Borde Hill qualifying for an Area Festival. In 2021 he started the year with a 5th place at Horseheath, and followed that up with a 9th in the Area Festival at Firle before moving onto BE90s. He gained a 7th at Rackham and an 8th at Tweseldown before moving up to his first BE100 at Chilham where he finished 11th after a slow learning trip around the XC.
He is slowly getting stronger and is still finding his balance, but he has proved that he enjoys the job and has tried his very best at every event he has been to.
