Ehren

Ehren is the first warmblood in the family, and the first pony bought solely for dressage. She is 16 hands and 10 years old, with a strong German accent. She is Westfalian; by Ehrenpreis out of a Florestan I mare and is an absolute sweetie.

Ehren joined us in February 2012 and settled into life at Carmen Court really well. After a few practise outings schooling away from home we ventured out to Bedgebury BD for our first competition and won at Prelim with 72.1%, she really tried her best and took everything in her stride.

A few months later we headed to Stilebridge BD for our second trip out, surpassing all expectations and winning her Prelim with an amazing 75.45% and even scoring 68.28% in the Novice which she was not really ready for. Very pleased with the new girl.

Ehren practising through the winterFollowing a break due to teeth problems she ventured out through the winter 2012-13 a few times gaining experience and confidence at different venues doing Novice tests. At Speedgate BD in May 2013 she wowed us all again winning both Novices overall, but giving me a super ride in Novice 39 and gaining 75.52% and qualifying for the Summer Regionals!

She had a little break from competing after the Summer Regionals while I was so busy and has started her winter campaign with three tests out of four in the 70% club and has qualified for the Winter Regionals and Hickstead Masters. So very pleased, she then started some of the easier Elementaries until a virus and some ongoing gastric problems forced much of 2014 off. Unfortunately Ehren is allergic to Gastrogard and it took a while to find a solution which eventually was helped enormously by keeping her in 24/7 and changing her feed to Simple System.

After limited outings she qualified for the Summer Elementary Regionals and the Hickstead Masters but was hindered somewhat by non-ulcerative keratitis in one eye losing her confidence in the competition arena. We have been plugging away with the work at home though and a year on, her new routine has allowed us to really make progress. In October 2015 she once again proved what she is made of and scored 74.48% and 76.26% at Elementary qualifying for the Winter Regionals. However it was my turn to head to sick bay with two unrelated accidents leaving me with an injured knee and some broken bones in my face. Unfortunately we were not back to fitness in time for the Regionals so we concentrated our efforts on making our debut at Advanced Medium and going to the Area Festivals at Medium. We have now not only dipped our hoof in the water a few times at Advanced Medium, but have also done our first two Advanced tests.

Ehren amazed us by winning the Petplan Equine Area Festival Medium class at Oldencraig in September qualifying for the BD Winter Championships. Then a month later she qualified for the Advanced Medium Winter Regionals and scored 65.44% in A102 qualifying for the right to compete at PSG. What a year!
