“Having moved from Henry (a 12.2 pony) to Smurf (a 6 year old 15.2 Small Hunter) was a huge jump for my 15 year old daughter who competes Side Saddle. After attending various Pony Club clinics on Henry, I contacted Janine to see if she was able to give us some help astride with our new horse, which was a year ago.
Since then Janine has come to our yard to give jumping and flat work lessons. When we first got Smurf, Morgan found jumping a bigger horse around a course of jumps was much harder than jumping a 12.2 pony. Janine helped Morgan make that transition and taught her how differently a horse needs to be ridden in order to get the best from it.
We also go to Carmen Court for monthly jumping clinics. The clinics have been very useful to both Smurf and Morgan. Morgan used to have trouble with keeping Smurf in a rhythm around a course, which usually resulted in a knock down. Janine has been very good in teaching Morgan how to ride Smurf to each fence. She has made each clinic a little more challenging and we always come away learning something new.
We soon noticed a big improvement in both Smurf’s and Morgan’s jumping. They were both very lucky to come away from the National side saddle show, winning numerous classes- one of which was the working hunter championship. Smurf jumped a beautiful round, and looked a different horse to a few months ago.
Janine has helped Morgan and Smurf into making them the successful team they are today.” Janeen Schive (Morgan Schive and Smurf)
